Ingredients
-
1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
-
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
-
1/2 cup ricotta cheese
-
1/2 cup marinara sauce, plus extra for dipping
-
1/2 cup chopped pepperoni or cooked sausage (optional)
-
1/4 cup chopped bell peppers or mushrooms (optional)
-
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
-
1 egg (for egg wash)
-
All-purpose flour (for dusting)
Instructions
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Lightly flour your work surface and divide the pizza dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 6–8 inch circle.
Spread about 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce on half of each circle, leaving a border around the edges.
Add 2 tablespoons of ricotta cheese, a handful of mozzarella, and any optional fillings like pepperoni or veggies.
Sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
Fold the dough over to make a half-moon shape and press the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges closed.
Beat the egg and brush it lightly over the tops of the calzones for a golden finish.
Place the calzones in the air fryer basket in a single layer (cook in batches if needed).
Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
Let cool for a couple of minutes before serving with extra marinara on the side for dipping.
Notes
-
You can customize these with any pizza toppings you like—try spinach, cooked bacon, or olives.
-
Make them ahead and freeze before cooking; just add a few extra minutes in the air fryer when cooking from frozen.
