Description

Tender and juicy BBQ chicken with a smoky, tangy barbecue sauce, perfect for grilling or baking.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
  • Fresh chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium heat or the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a seasoning rub.
  3. Rub the seasoning mixture evenly over the chicken, ensuring it’s well-coated on both sides.
  4. If grilling, place the chicken on the grill and cook for 6-8 minutes per side, turning occasionally, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). If baking, place the chicken on a baking sheet and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until cooked through and golden brown.
  5. During the last few minutes of cooking, brush the chicken with BBQ sauce and allow it to caramelize slightly.
  6. Once done, remove the chicken from the grill or oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
  7. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired, and serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side.

Notes

  • For a smoky flavor, use a barbecue sauce with smoked elements or add a few drops of liquid smoke to the sauce.
  • This recipe can be made with any bone-in chicken pieces like wings, thighs, or breasts.
  • For extra crispy skin, finish the chicken under the broiler for a few minutes after applying the BBQ sauce.
