Scale
- 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs or breasts
- 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
- Fresh chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the grill to medium heat or the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, mix olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a seasoning rub.
- Rub the seasoning mixture evenly over the chicken, ensuring it’s well-coated on both sides.
- If grilling, place the chicken on the grill and cook for 6-8 minutes per side, turning occasionally, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). If baking, place the chicken on a baking sheet and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until cooked through and golden brown.
- During the last few minutes of cooking, brush the chicken with BBQ sauce and allow it to caramelize slightly.
- Once done, remove the chicken from the grill or oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired, and serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side.
Notes
- For a smoky flavor, use a barbecue sauce with smoked elements or add a few drops of liquid smoke to the sauce.
- This recipe can be made with any bone-in chicken pieces like wings, thighs, or breasts.
- For extra crispy skin, finish the chicken under the broiler for a few minutes after applying the BBQ sauce.
