Description

Beef Lo Mein is a classic Chinese takeout dish made with tender strips of beef, stir-fried vegetables, and egg noodles tossed in a savory soy-based sauce.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 8 oz lo mein noodles
  • 1/2 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, julienned
  • 1 cup snow peas
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook lo mein noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil to make the sauce.
  3. Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add beef and stir-fry until browned, about 2-3 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add remaining oil to the pan. Stir-fry garlic and ginger for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add bell pepper, snow peas, and carrot. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until slightly tender.
  6. Return beef to the pan along with cooked noodles and sauce. Toss everything together and cook for 2-3 more minutes until heated through.
  7. Add green onions, adjust seasoning, and serve hot.

Notes

  • Flank steak is recommended for its tenderness when sliced thin.
  • You can substitute vegetables based on availability.
  • Cook noodles al dente to prevent them from becoming mushy during stir-frying.
