Ingredients

  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded or diced chicken
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions. Add broccoli florets during the last 2 minutes of cooking. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  3. Slowly whisk in the milk and heavy cream. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Reduce heat to low and stir in cheddar cheese and Parmesan until melted and smooth.
  5. Season with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  6. Add the cooked pasta, broccoli, and chicken to the cheese sauce. Stir to combine and heat through.
