Description

These Bunny Buns are soft, fluffy dinner rolls shaped like adorable little bunnies. They’re lightly sweet, easy to make, and perfect for kids and holiday gatherings. Serve them with butter, jam, or just as a charming addition to your Easter table.

Ingredients

Units Scale

1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon salt

1 large egg

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)

1 tablespoon milk (for brushing)

Raisins or mini chocolate chips (for eyes, optional)

Instructions

  • Activate the Yeast:
In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  • Make the Dough:
Add melted butter, salt, and egg to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine. Gradually mix in flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

  • Knead:
Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  • First Rise:
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  • Shape the Bunnies:
Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. For each bunny:

    • Roll one larger ball for the body.

    • Pinch off a small bit for the tail (a tiny ball).

    • Roll two thin ropes and shape into bunny ears.

    • Assemble on a parchment-lined baking sheet, pressing pieces together gently.

    • Add raisins or chocolate chips for eyes if using.

  • Second Rise:
Cover loosely with a clean towel and let rise for another 20–30 minutes.

  • Bake:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush buns lightly with milk. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown.

  • Cool and Serve:
Let cool slightly before serving. Best enjoyed warm with butter or honey!

Notes

  • These freeze well—just thaw and warm before serving.

  • Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for a spiced version.

  • For sweeter buns, increase sugar to 1/3 cup and add a glaze on top after baking.
