Ingredients
For the carne asada:
-
1 lb flank or skirt steak
-
2 tablespoons olive oil
-
2 tablespoons lime juice
-
2 tablespoons orange juice
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 teaspoon chili powder
-
1 teaspoon cumin
-
1/2 teaspoon paprika
-
Salt & pepper, to taste
For the fries:
-
1 bag (about 1.5 lbs) frozen French fries or fresh homemade fries
-
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Mexican blend cheese
Toppings:
-
1/2 cup guacamole or sliced avocado
-
1/2 cup sour cream or Mexican crema
-
1/2 cup pico de gallo or diced tomatoes
-
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
-
Sliced jalapeños (optional)
-
Lime wedges (for serving)
Instructions
-
Marinate the steak:
In a bowl or zip-top bag, combine olive oil, lime juice, orange juice, garlic, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add steak and marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes (or up to 8 hours for best flavor). -
Cook the fries:
Bake or air fry your fries according to package directions until crispy. Spread onto a large oven-safe platter or baking sheet. -
Cook the steak:
Heat a grill or skillet over high heat. Cook the steak for 3–4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Let rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain and chop into bite-sized pieces. -
Assemble:
Sprinkle fries with cheese and broil for 2–3 minutes, just until the cheese is melted. Remove from oven and top with chopped carne asada.
-
Add toppings:
Spoon on guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, cilantro, jalapeños, and a squeeze of lime. Serve immediately!
