Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking dish or line with foil.
- Pound chicken breasts to even thickness if needed.
- Set up a breading station: place flour in one bowl, whisk eggs and water in another, and combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in a third.
- Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip in egg mixture, then coat with breadcrumb mixture. Press gently to adhere.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Sear chicken for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown but not fully cooked. Transfer to baking dish.
- Spoon marinara sauce over each chicken breast, then top with shredded mozzarella and remaining Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C) and cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving, if desired.
Notes
- Use freshly grated cheese for best flavor and melt.
- Pairs well with spaghetti, salad, or steamed vegetables.
- Make it ahead: assemble, refrigerate, and bake when ready.
