Description

These buttery, melt-in-your-mouth Christmas cookies are a holiday classic! Perfect for decorating with festive sprinkles, icing, or keeping simple with their deliciously rich flavor. Easy to make, theyโ€™re a hit with kids and adults alike during the holiday season.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups (315g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into two portions, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about ยผ-inch thickness. Use holiday cookie cutters to cut shapes, and transfer them to the prepared baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Decorate as desired with icing, sprinkles, or enjoy plain!

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is fully softened for a smooth dough.
  • If the dough becomes too soft while cutting shapes, refrigerate again for 10-15 minutes.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container for up to one week.
