Description

These Christmas Gooey Butter Cookies are soft, chewy, and packed with buttery goodness! Made with cream cheese and cake mix, they have a rich, melt-in-your-mouth texture with a festive touch. Dust them with powdered sugar for a snowy look, or roll them in sprinkles for extra holiday cheer!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 8 oz (1 package) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)
  • Optional: Red & green sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  4. Slowly mix in the cake mix until a thick dough forms.
  5. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes (this makes it easier to handle).
  6. Scoop about 1 tablespoon of dough and roll into a ball.
  7. Roll each dough ball in powdered sugar (or sprinkles for a colorful touch).
  8. Place on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • You can freeze the cookie dough balls before baking for up to 3 months—just bake from frozen, adding an extra 1-2 minutes.
