Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Churro Bites:

  • 1 cup (240 ml) water
  • 2 tbsp (30 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp (15 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (120 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

For the Chocolate Dipping Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream
  • 4 oz (115 g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and stir in the flour with a wooden spoon. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture forms a smooth dough and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  2. Cool and Mix:
Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl and let it cool for 5 minutes. Add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until the dough is smooth and slightly sticky.
  3. Heat Oil:
Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or saucepan to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
  4. Pipe and Fry:
Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 1-inch pieces of dough into the hot oil, using scissors or a knife to cut the dough as itโ€™s piped. Fry in batches, cooking each batch for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  5. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar:
In a bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon. Toss the warm churro bites in the mixture until evenly coated.
  6. Make the Chocolate Sauce:
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and pour over the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Serve:
Serve the churro bites warm with the chocolate dipping sauce on the side.

Notes

  • You can reheat churro bites in the oven at 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) for 5-7 minutes to crisp them up.
  • The dough can be made ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 1 day.
