Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Banana Bread:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Cream Cheese Filling:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:ย Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease a 9ร—5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray or butter.
  2. Prepare Banana Bread Batter:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
    • Add the egg, sour cream, and vanilla extract; mix until well combined.
    • Stir in the mashed bananas.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  3. Prepare Cream Cheese Filling:
    • In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
    • Add the egg, granulated sugar, and flour; mix until creamy and well combined.
  4. Assemble the Bread:
    • Pour half of the banana bread batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.
    • Gently spread the cream cheese filling over the batter.
    • Top with the remaining banana bread batter, spreading it evenly over the cream cheese layer.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • If the top begins to brown too quickly, tent it with aluminum foil during the last 15 minutes of baking.
  6. Cool:
    • Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
    • Then, transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is at room temperature for a smooth filling.
  • Overripe bananas with brown spots provide the best sweetness and flavor.
  • Store the bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
