Description

Creamy Garlic Shrimp is a quick and luxurious dish featuring plump shrimp in a luscious, garlicky cream sauce. Ready in just 15 minutes, this recipe is perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions, pairing beautifully with pasta, rice, or crusty bread.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Shrimp

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Creamy Garlic Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

To Finish

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Season the Shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and season on both sides with salt and black pepper.
  2. Sauté the Shrimp: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt 1 tablespoon butter. Add shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until pink and just opaque. Remove shrimp from the pan and set aside.
  3. Sauté Garlic: In the same skillet, add remaining tablespoon of butter. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using). Sauté for about 30 seconds, until fragrant but not browned.
  4. Make Cream Sauce: Pour in heavy cream and chicken broth, stirring to combine. Bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in grated Parmesan cheese and cook for another 2 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Finish the Dish: Return cooked shrimp to the skillet. Add lemon juice and stir to coat shrimp in the sauce. Let simmer for 1-2 minutes to heat through.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve immediately with lemon wedges. Enjoy with pasta, rice, or bread if desired!

Notes

  • Do not overcook the shrimp—they cook very quickly and can become rubbery if left too long.
  • Add spinach or sun-dried tomatoes for extra flavor and color.
  • For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream, but the sauce will be less rich.
  • You can substitute chicken for shrimp if desired—simply cook bite-sized pieces until golden and cooked through.
