For the Cake:
- 1 1/2 cups Dr. Pepper soda
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup salted butter
- 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions
- Prepare the Oven and Pan:
- Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
- Grease a 9ร13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- Make the Cake Batter:
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the Dr. Pepper soda, vegetable oil, butter, and cocoa powder. Stir occasionally until the mixture comes to a simmer, then remove from heat.
- In a separate large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, and baking soda.
- Pour the warm Dr. Pepper mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- In a small bowl, lightly beat the eggs and buttermilk together. Add this mixture to the batter and stir until smooth.
- Bake the Cake:
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake for 23-28 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Once done, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool slightly while you prepare the frosting.
- Prepare the Frosting:
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, cocoa powder, and milk. Stir occasionally until the mixture is melted and smooth.
- Remove from heat and gradually whisk in the powdered sugar until the frosting is smooth and well combined.
- Frost the Cake:
- Pour the warm frosting over the slightly cooled cake, spreading it evenly.
- Allow the cake to cool completely before serving.
