Description

These Easy Caramel Pecan Turtle Bars combine a buttery shortbread crust with gooey caramel, crunchy pecans, and rich chocolate. Perfect for holidays, potlucks, or when you need a simple yet decadent dessert.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:ย Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Make the Crust:ย In a large bowl, mix the flour, softened butter, and sugar until combined. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish to form the crust.
  3. Bake the Crust:ย Bake the crust in the preheated oven for 15โ€“20 minutes, or until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  4. Add the Caramel Layer:ย Pour the caramel sauce evenly over the warm crust. Use a spatula to spread it out, if needed.
  5. Add Pecans and Chocolate:ย Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the caramel, followed by the chocolate chips.
  6. Set the Bars:ย Return the pan to the oven and bake for another 8โ€“10 minutes, just until the caramel bubbles slightly and the chocolate begins to melt.
  7. Cool and Slice:ย Remove from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely in the pan. Once cool, slice into squares or bars.

Notes

  • For a richer caramel flavor, you can use dulce de leche instead of caramel sauce.
  • Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • To make slicing easier, chill the bars before cutting.
