Description

This creamy and flavorful cheese fondue is quick to make and perfect for sharing. Made with a blend of melty cheeses, garlic, and a splash of wine or broth, it’s the ultimate appetizer for parties, date nights, or cozy gatherings. Serve it with bread, vegetables, or even apple slices for a fun and tasty dip!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 clove garlic, halved
  • 1 cup (240ml) dry white wine (or low-sodium broth for non-alcoholic)
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded Swiss cheese (Gruyère or Emmental)
  • 1 cup (100g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Bread cubes, vegetables, and apple slices, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pot: Rub the inside of a fondue pot or saucepan with the cut sides of the garlic clove. Discard the garlic.
  2. Heat the liquid: Pour the wine (or broth) into the pot and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  3. Mix the cheese: In a bowl, toss the shredded cheeses with cornstarch to coat. This helps thicken the fondue.
  4. Melt the cheese: Gradually add the cheese to the warm liquid, stirring constantly in a figure-eight motion until melted and smooth.
  5. Add flavor: Stir in the lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and nutmeg. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve: Transfer to a fondue pot or keep warm on low heat. Serve immediately with bread, veggies, and apple slices for dipping!

Notes

  • If the fondue is too thick, add a little more wine or broth. If it’s too thin, add more cheese or a pinch of cornstarch.
  • Keep the heat low to prevent the cheese from separating.
  • No fondue pot? A small slow cooker or double boiler works great!
