Units
Scale
- 12 oz (340g) pasta (penne, fusilli, or spaghetti)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot or skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes, vegetable or chicken broth, dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Add the pasta directly into the pot, making sure it is submerged in the liquid. Cover the pot and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is al dente and most of the liquid is absorbed.
- Stir in the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce is creamy and the pasta is fully coated.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Garnish with fresh basil and serve immediately.
Notes
- Feel free to add cooked chicken, shrimp, or sausage for extra protein.
- You can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or coconut milk for a lighter version.
- Add a handful of spinach or sun-dried tomatoes for extra flavor and texture.
