A homemade version of the classic Five Guys style cheeseburger, juicy and customizable with fresh toppings on a toasted bun.

- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 4 slices American cheese
- 4 burger buns
- 2 tbsp butter (for toasting buns)
- Lettuce leaves, shredded
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 4 dill pickle slices
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- Ketchup and yellow mustard, to taste
Instructions
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (ยผ lb each) and gently form into patties slightly larger than the buns; season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Preheat skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Cook patties for about 3โ4 minutes per side, flipping once, until well browned on the outside and juicy inside.
- Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking; cover to melt.
- Meanwhile, spread butter on the cut sides of the buns and toast in a separate pan or on the griddle until golden brown.
- Assemble burgers by placing the cheesy patties on the bottom bun, then layering with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, ketchup, mustard, and topping with the top bun.
- Serve immediately with your favorite fries or sides.

- For an authentic Five Guys experience, donโt overwork the meatโkeep patties loose and tender.
- Use sesame seed buns if preferred, though Five Guys typically uses plain buns.
- Customize with additional toppings like grilled mushrooms, jalapeรฑos, or extra cheese.
- You can cook patties on a cast-iron skillet or flat top for extra flavor from the char.
