- For the Sliders:
- 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls
- 1 pound deli roast beef, thinly sliced
- 12 slices provolone cheese
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- For the Topping:
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon dried onion soup mix
- For the Au Jus:
- 1 packet au jus gravy mix
- 3 cups water
Instructions
- Caramelize the Onions:
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter.
- Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they become soft and golden brown, about 12-15 minutes.
- Season with salt, pepper, and thyme (if using). Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare the Rolls:
- Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
- Without separating the rolls, slice them horizontally to create a top and bottom half.
- Place the bottom half in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Assemble the Sliders:
- Layer half of the provolone cheese over the bottom rolls.
- Evenly distribute the roast beef on top of the cheese.
- Spread the caramelized onions over the beef.
- Add the remaining provolone cheese slices.
- Place the top half of the rolls over the assembled layers.
- Add the Topping:
- In a bowl, combine the melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and dried onion soup mix.
- Brush this mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls.
- Bake:
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 15 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden brown.
- Prepare the Au Jus:
- While the sliders are baking, prepare the au jus by combining the gravy mix with 3 cups of water in a saucepan.
- Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer until slightly thickened.
- Serve:
- Once baked, remove the sliders from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
- Cut into individual sliders and serve warm with the au jus dipping sauce on the side.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider spreading a thin layer of horseradish sauce or mayonnaise on the rolls before assembling.
- These sliders can be prepared ahead of time. Assemble them without the topping, cover, and refrigerate. When ready to bake, add the topping and adjust the baking time as needed.
