- Slice the apples into 1/4-inch thick rings.
- Make the Batter:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk and egg.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Heat the Oil:
- In a large, shallow pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
- Fry the Apple Rings:
- Dip each apple ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off.
- Carefully place a few rings at a time into the hot oil.
- Fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Coat with Cinnamon-Sugar:
- In a shallow dish, mix together the sugar and cinnamon for the coating.
- While the apple rings are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.
Notes
- For a dairy-free option, substitute the buttermilk with almond or oat milk mixed with a teaspoon of lemon juice or vinegar.
- These apple rings are best enjoyed warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
