Description

Fried Cinnamon Apple Rings are a delightful treat that combines the natural sweetness of apples with a crispy, cinnamon-infused batter. Theyโ€™re perfect for a cozy dessert or a fun snack to share.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Apple Rings:

  • 4 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk mixed with 1 teaspoon white vinegar)
  • 1 large egg
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Cinnamon-Sugar Coating:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Prepare the Apples:
    • Peel the apples and remove the cores using an apple corer or a small round cutter.
    • Slice the apples into 1/4-inch thick rings.
  • Make the Batter:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
    • In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk and egg.
    • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  • Heat the Oil:
    • In a large, shallow pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
  • Fry the Apple Rings:
    • Dip each apple ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off.
    • Carefully place a few rings at a time into the hot oil.
    • Fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
    • Remove from the oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Coat with Cinnamon-Sugar:
    • In a shallow dish, mix together the sugar and cinnamon for the coating.
    • While the apple rings are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free option, substitute the buttermilk with almond or oat milk mixed with a teaspoon of lemon juice or vinegar.
  • These apple rings are best enjoyed warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
