Ingredients
For the filling:
-
8 oz cream cheese, softened
-
1/4 cup powdered sugar
-
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
-
1/2 cup strawberry jam or preserves
-
1/2 cup fresh strawberries, chopped
For the sandwiches:
-
8 slices of white bread (or brioche)
-
2 eggs
-
1/4 cup milk
-
1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
-
1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
-
Butter or oil, for frying
Instructions
In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
Spread a layer of cream cheese mixture on 4 slices of bread.
Add a spoonful of strawberry jam and a few fresh strawberries on top.
Top each with a second slice of bread to make 4 sandwiches. Gently press edges to seal.
In a shallow bowl, whisk eggs and milk (add cinnamon if using).
Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a little butter or oil.
Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
Fry sandwiches 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
While warm, coat sandwiches in granulated sugar (or cinnamon sugar, if desired).
Slice in half and serve immediately.
Notes
-
Use Nutella instead of jam for a chocolatey twist.
-
Add crushed graham crackers to the cream cheese for extra cheesecake flavor.
-
Best served warm, right after frying!
