Yerba Mate Base
- 2 cups water
- 2 tablespoons loose-leaf yerba mate (or 2 yerba mate tea bags)
Fruity Flavor
- 1/2 cup mixed berries (fresh or frozen; raspberries, blueberries, strawberries recommended)
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1/2 lemon, sliced
Sweetener & Garnish
- 1–2 tablespoons honey or agave syrup (optional, to taste)
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Steep the Yerba Mate: Bring 2 cups of water to just below boiling (about 175°F/80°C). Pour water over the yerba mate (loose-leaf in an infuser, or tea bags) in a heatproof jug. Let steep for 5 minutes, then remove the yerba mate. Allow the tea to cool slightly.
- Prepare the Fruit: While the tea cools, add the mixed berries, orange slices, and lemon slices to a large jug or pitcher.
- Combine & Sweeten: Pour the warm yerba mate over the fruit in the pitcher. Stir in honey or agave syrup, if using, until dissolved. Let the mixture chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse.
- Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the fruity yerba mate over the ice, making sure each glass gets some whole fruit pieces.
- Garnish & Enjoy: Top with fresh mint leaves, if desired. Serve immediately, sipping slowly and savoring the fruit-infused flavors.
Notes
- For extra berry flavor, lightly mash a few berries before adding to the pitcher.
- Adjust sweetness to your taste, or omit the sweetener for a sugar-free version.
- Try adding sliced cucumber or a splash of sparkling water for a fun twist.
- Yerba mate contains caffeine; enjoy earlier in the day if you’re sensitive to it.
