For the Dough
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg
For the Garlic Butter
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For Finishing
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. Add melted butter, egg, and salt, stirring to combine. Gradually mix in the flour until the dough comes together.
- Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Shape the Rolls: Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place on a parchment-lined or greased baking tray, spaced slightly apart. Cover loosely and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Make the Garlic Butter: While rolls are rising, melt butter and stir in minced garlic, salt, and chopped parsley. Set aside.
- Bake the Rolls: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush rolls generously with half of the garlic butter. Bake for 18-20 minutes, until golden brown.
- Glaze and Serve: Remove rolls from oven and immediately brush with remaining garlic butter. Sprinkle with Parmesan, if using. Let cool slightly before serving warm.
Notes
- You can substitute dry parsley with fresh or even use Italian seasoning for variety.
- Ensure your milk is warm (not hot) to activate the yeast properly.
- These rolls freeze well; reheat in the oven for best results.
- If you want extra cheesy rolls, add mozzarella inside the dough balls before baking.
