Description

This creamy and flavorful hot sausage beer cheese dip is the ultimate party appetizer! Packed with spicy sausage, melted cheese, and a subtle beer undertone, itโ€™s a crowd-pleaser perfect for game days, potlucks, or gatherings. Serve with tortilla chips, pretzels, or fresh vegetables for dipping.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb spicy ground sausage (like Italian or breakfast sausage)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beer (lager or ale works well)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: chopped green onions, crumbled bacon, or diced jalapeรฑos

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and whisk for 1-2 minutes until the mixture is golden and smooth.
  3. Slowly pour in the beer, whisking constantly to combine. Then, add the milk and continue whisking until the mixture thickens slightly, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the cream cheese until fully melted and incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until smooth and creamy.
  6. Add the garlic powder, smoked paprika, and cooked sausage. Stir until well combined.
  7. Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed.
  8. Serve immediately in a warm bowl or crockpot, garnished with optional toppings if desired.

Notes

  • Use your favorite beer to adjust the flavor profile; a darker beer will add a richer flavor, while a lighter beer keeps it mild.
  • Keep the dip warm in a slow cooker for extended serving.
  • Leftovers can be reheated over low heat with a splash of milk or beer to restore creaminess.
