Description

These crispyย Jalapeรฑo Popper Wontonsย are the perfect bite-sized appetizer, blending creamy, cheesy goodness with a spicy kick. Filled with cream cheese, cheddar, jalapeรฑos, and bacon, wrapped in a crispy wonton shellโ€”theyโ€™re a party favorite that disappears fast!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 8 oz (1 block) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 34 jalapeรฑos, seeded and finely diced
  • 4 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3040 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg (beaten, for sealing the wrappers)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling:
In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, shredded cheddar, diced jalapeรฑos, crumbled bacon, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Assemble the Wontons:
Place a wonton wrapper on a clean, flat surface. Add about 1 teaspoon of the filling to the center. Brush the edges of the wrapper with the beaten egg, then fold it into a triangle (or bring all corners to the center to form a pouch), pressing the edges to seal tightly.
  3. Heat the Oil:
In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
  4. Fry the Wontons:
Fry the wontons in small batches for 2โ€“3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  5. Serve:
Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce like ranch, sweet chili sauce, or sour cream.

Notes

  • Baking Option:ย For a healthier option, bake the wontons at 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) for 10โ€“12 minutes, brushing them lightly with oil beforehand.
  • Adjust Heat Level:ย Keep some jalapeรฑo seeds in the filling for extra heat or substitute with milder peppers for less spice.
  • Make-Ahead Tip:ย Assemble the wontons ahead of time and freeze them. Fry directly from frozen, adding an extra minute to the cooking time.
