Description

This easy stovetop bread is soft, fluffy, and perfect for those without an oven. Made with basic pantry ingredients, itโ€™s a quick and versatile bread recipe that pairs well with any meal or as a snack. No special equipment is neededโ€”just a skillet or large pan!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups (315g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water (100-110ยฐF or 37-43ยฐC)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil (plus more for greasing the pan)

Instructions

  1. Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Add warm water and olive oil, mixing until the dough comes together.
  2. Knead: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape: Punch down the risen dough, then shape it into a round or oval loaf to fit your pan.
  5. Second Rise: Place the dough in the greased pan or skillet. Cover and let it rise again for 20-30 minutes.
  6. Cook on Stovetop: Heat the skillet over low heat. Place the dough in the skillet, cover it with a lid, and cook for 12-15 minutes on one side. Flip carefully and cook for another 10-12 minutes on the other side until the bread is golden brown and fully cooked.
  7. Cool: Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • Use a heavy-bottomed pan or skillet with a tight-fitting lid for even cooking.
  • To check for doneness, tap the bottom of the bread; it should sound hollow.
  • You can add herbs or seeds to the dough for extra flavor.
