Ingredients

Units Scale
  • Meats:
    • 1 pound lean ground beef
    • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • Binders and Fillers:
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
    • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Aromatics and Seasonings:
    • 1 small onion, finely minced
    • 1โ€“2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Toppings:
    • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
    • 1/2 cup shredded Italian cheese blend

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
  2. Prepare Meat Mixture:
    • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground turkey, eggs, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, minced onion, minced garlic, oregano, basil, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until all ingredients are well incorporated, being careful not to overmix to maintain tenderness.
  3. Shape and Bake:
    • Lightly grease a loaf pan or baking sheet. Shape the meat mixture into a loaf and place it in the prepared pan.
    • Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
    • Place the pan on a baking sheet to catch any drippings, and bake in the preheated oven for 45โ€“60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160ยฐF (71ยฐC).
  4. Add Cheese Topping:
    • Remove the meatloaf from the oven and sprinkle the shredded Italian cheese blend on top.
    • Return the meatloaf to the oven and bake for an additional 5โ€“10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Rest and Serve:
    • Allow the meatloaf to rest for 5โ€“10 minutes before slicing. This helps retain the juices and makes slicing easier.
    • Serve warm, garnished with additional marinara sauce if desired.

Notes

  • For a leaner option, you can use all ground turkey instead of a beef and turkey mix.
  • Feel free to add chopped fresh herbs like parsley for extra freshness.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
