Description

Chicken Cordon Bleu is a classic dish made with tender chicken breasts stuffed with ham and Swiss cheese, then breaded and baked or fried to golden perfection.


Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices deli ham
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter (for baking)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish or line with parchment paper.
  2. Place chicken breasts between plastic wrap and pound to 1/4-inch thickness using a meat mallet.
  3. Place one slice of ham and one slice of cheese on each chicken breast. Roll up tightly and secure with toothpicks.
  4. Set up a breading station: place flour in one bowl; beat eggs with milk in a second bowl; mix breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika in a third.
  5. Dredge each chicken roll in flour, dip in egg wash, then coat in seasoned breadcrumbs.
  6. Place in prepared baking dish and drizzle with olive oil or melted butter for extra crispiness.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through and golden brown (internal temperature should be 165°F/75°C).
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Remove toothpicks before serving.

Notes

  • Use toothpicks or kitchen twine to secure rolls and prevent filling from leaking.
  • Serve with Dijon cream sauce or over mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
  • Can be prepped ahead and refrigerated before baking.
