Description

Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli is a crave-worthy mash-up of tender shaved beef, sautรฉed onions and peppers, melted provolone, all rolled up in golden baked pizza dough. With all the flavors of the classic Philly cheesesteak but wrapped in a convenient, shareable form, this stromboli makes a perfect party appetizer, game-day snack, or weeknight dinner. Serve it sliced with warm marinara or cheese sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Beef Filling

  • 1 pound shaved ribeye or sirloin steak (or thinly sliced deli roast beef)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Stromboli

  • 1 pound (1 ball) pizza dough, at room temperature
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds or Italian seasoning (optional, for topping)

For Serving

  • Marinara sauce or cheese sauce (optional, for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and green bell pepper, sautรฉing for about 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the shaved steak and cook, breaking up with a spatula, until no longer pink. Season with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. Roll the Dough: Dust your work surface with flour and roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle (about 10×14 inches). Arrange the provolone slices evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border on all sides.
  3. Layer and Roll: Spread the cooled beef and veggie mixture over the cheese. Starting from a longer edge, carefully roll the dough into a tight log, tucking in the ends to seal and pinching the seam shut. Place the roll seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Brush and Top: Brush the stromboli with beaten egg to create a glossy crust. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or Italian seasoning if desired. Use a sharp knife to make a few shallow slashes on top to vent steam.
  5. Bake: Bake in a preheated 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Let cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
  6. Serve: Slice into pieces and serve warm with marinara or cheese sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Let the beef filling cool slightly before assembling to avoid soggy dough.
  • You can use pre-made pizza dough for convenience, or make your own.
  • Try adding sliced mushrooms or banana peppers for extra flavor.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in a 350ยฐF oven wrapped in foil.
