For the Brie en Croรปte
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 (8-ounce) wheel Brie cheese
- 3 tablespoons raspberry preserves
- 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
For Toasting the Walnuts
- 1 teaspoon butter (optional, for toasting)
- 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Toast the Walnuts: In a small skillet over medium heat, melt 1 teaspoon butter (if using). Add chopped walnuts and toast for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant and lightly browned. Transfer to a plate to cool.
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400ยฐF (200ยฐC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, gently roll out the thawed puff pastry to smooth any fold lines. Place the pastry on the prepared baking sheet.
- Layer the Ingredients: Place the Brie wheel in the center of the pastry. Spread raspberry preserves evenly over the top and sprinkle with toasted walnuts.
- Wrap the Brie: Fold the pastry up and over the cheese, pleating and sealing the edges tightly. Flip the whole bundle so the seam is on the bottom. If desired, use extra pastry scraps to decorate the top.
- Brush with Egg Wash: Whisk the egg and water together. Brush the surface of the pastry with the egg wash to ensure an even, golden color when baked.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and deeply golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the baked Brie to cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with additional toasted walnuts if desired, and serve warm with crackers or sliced baguette.
Notes
- You can substitute raspberry preserves with fig, apricot, or blackberry for a different twist.
- Brie en croute is best served warm, but leftovers can be reheated in the oven.
- To make ahead, assemble up to the egg wash step and refrigerate, covered, for several hours before baking.
- Serve with sliced baguette, crackers, or fresh fruit for a complete appetizer spread.
