- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon red food coloring (or more for desired color)
- 3/4 cup white chocolate chips or cream cheese frosting (optional for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the egg, milk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring, mixing until fully combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- If using, fold in the white chocolate chips at this stage.
- Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
- Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- If desired, drizzle or spread cream cheese frosting over the cooled cookies.
Notes
- For an even deeper red, you can add more food coloring. Gel food coloring works best for a more vibrant color.
- You can substitute white chocolate chips with regular chocolate chips or leave them out if you prefer.
