Filling

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, mix warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
    • Add sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, red food coloring, and cocoa powder. Mix until combined.
    • Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
    • Knead for 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until smooth. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1-1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the Filling:
    • Mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl until combined.
  3. Assemble the Rolls:
    • Roll out dough on a floured surface into a 12×18 inch rectangle.
    • Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
    • Roll tightly from the long side into a log. Slice into 12 equal rolls.
    • Arrange rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  4. Bake:
    • Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
  5. Make the Frosting:
    • Beat cream cheese, butter, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until creamy. Adjust consistency with milk if needed.
  6. Frost and Serve:
    • Spread frosting over warm rolls. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • To enhance the red color, use gel food coloring.
  • Rolls can be made ahead: refrigerate overnight after assembling and bake fresh in the morning.
