Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Dough:

  • 3 1/2 cups (440g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) warm milk (110ยฐF or 45ยฐC)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large egg

For the Garlic Butter Mixture:

  • 4 tablespoons (56g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast:
In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, warm milk, olive oil, and egg. Mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise:
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the Garlic Butter Mixture:
In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, rosemary, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  5. Shape the Bread:
Punch down the dough and divide it into small pieces (about golf ball-sized). Dip each piece into the garlic butter mixture and place them in a greased 9-inch round or loaf pan, layering them slightly. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese in between layers.
  6. Second Rise:
Cover the pan and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  7. Bake:
Preheat oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC). Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  8. Serve:
Let it cool for a few minutes, then enjoy warm!

Notes

  • You can use dried rosemary if fresh isnโ€™t available (reduce to 1 teaspoon).
  • Add extra cheese on top before baking for a crispy, cheesy crust.
  • Serve with marinara sauce or olive oil for dipping.
