Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Nachos:

  • 1 bag (12 oz) tortilla chips
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheese blend)
  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade seasoning)
  • 1/4 cup water

Optional Toppings:

  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup diced red onions
  • 1/2 cup jalapeño slices (fresh or pickled)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup guacamole
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/2 cup salsa or pico de gallo

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ground Beef:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess grease.
    • Add taco seasoning and water to the skillet. Stir and cook for 2-3 minutes until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat.
  2. Assemble the Nachos:
    • Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
    • Spread tortilla chips evenly across the sheet pan.
    • Sprinkle half the shredded cheese over the chips.
    • Evenly distribute the cooked ground beef over the cheese layer.
    • Add the remaining shredded cheese on top.
  3. Bake the Nachos:
    • Place the sheet pan in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted.
  4. Add Toppings and Serve:
    • Remove the nachos from the oven and add your desired toppings (e.g., diced tomatoes, olives, jalapeños).
    • Serve warm with sides of guacamole, sour cream, and salsa.

Notes

  • Make It Vegetarian: Swap the ground beef for black beans or plant-based protein.
  • Add Extra Flavor: Sprinkle a little cumin or smoked paprika on the cheese for added depth.
  • Cheese Tip: For gooey, melty nachos, use a mix of cheddar, Monterey Jack, and mozzarella.
