Description

This Spicy Chocolate Bark combines rich, dark chocolate with the smoky heat of chipotle powder and the crunch of roasted almonds. Perfect for a unique homemade treat or edible gift, this bark delivers a balance of sweet, spicy, and nutty flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces dark chocolate (70% cacao), finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon chipotle powder, or to taste
  • 1/3 cup roasted almonds, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt, plus extra for garnish
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries (optional, for added sweetness and texture)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Melt the chocolate: Place the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Melt it using a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
  3. Add spices: Stir in the chipotle powder and 1/4 teaspoon sea salt, adjusting the spice level to taste.
  4. Incorporate almonds: Mix in half of the roasted almonds, saving the rest for topping.
  5. Spread the mixture: Pour the melted chocolate mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it into an even layer about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Add toppings: Sprinkle the remaining almonds, a pinch of sea salt, and optional dried cranberries over the top. Press lightly to ensure they stick.
  7. Set the bark: Let the chocolate cool at room temperature until firm, or refrigerate for 20-30 minutes to speed up the process.
  8. Break into pieces: Once fully set, break the chocolate bark into irregular pieces.
  9. Store and enjoy: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Adjust the chipotle powder to suit your spice preference.
  • Use a mix of nuts or seeds if you donโ€™t have almonds on hand.
  • Adding dried fruit like cranberries or apricots adds a nice touch of sweetness.
