For the Donuts:
- 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (60ml) unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup (120ml) buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (120g) fresh strawberries, finely chopped
For the Strawberry Glaze:
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
- 2โ3 tbsp strawberry puree (made by blending fresh strawberries)
- 1โ2 tsp milk, as needed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven:ย Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease a donut pan and set aside.
- Mix dry ingredients:ย In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Combine wet ingredients:ย In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, melted butter, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir in the chopped strawberries.
- Combine mixtures:ย Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Fill the donut pan:ย Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about ยพ full.
- Bake:ย Bake for 10โ12 minutes or until the donuts are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the glaze:ย In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and strawberry puree until smooth. Add a little milk if needed to reach a glaze consistency.
- Glaze the donuts:ย Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the glaze, letting any excess drip off. Place back on the wire rack to set.
Notes
- Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor.
- For a deeper pink glaze, add a tiny drop of red food coloring.
- Donuts are best enjoyed the same day but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days
