For the Pastry:
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup strawberry jam or preserves
- 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, diced
For Decoration:
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Prepare the Pastry:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out an even number of hearts.
- Assemble the Hearts:
- Place half of the hearts on the prepared baking sheet. Spread 1 teaspoon of strawberry jam in the center of each, leaving a small border around the edges. Add a few diced strawberry pieces on top of the jam.
- Brush the edges with beaten egg, then place another heart-shaped pastry on top. Press the edges gently with a fork to seal them.
- Bake:
- Brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
- Finish and Serve:
- Let the pastries cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- Use raspberry or apricot jam for a fun twist.
- To make the recipe vegan, use a non-dairy puff pastry and brush the edges with almond milk instead of egg wash.
