- 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Optional: Royal icing or colored sprinkles for decoration
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
- Mix and Chill:
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Divide the dough in half, flatten into discs, and wrap tightly in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or until firm.
- Roll and Cut:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to about ¼ inch thickness.
- Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
- Bake:
- Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn golden.
- Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Decorate:
- Once cooled, decorate with royal icing, sprinkles, or edible glitter as desired.
Notes
- To prevent sticking, flour your rolling pin and cookie cutter lightly.
- Store cookies in an airtight container for up to one week.
- For an extra festive touch, add food coloring to the dough before chilling.
