Scale
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm milk (110ยฐF)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture, warm milk, and melted butter. Stir to form a dough.
- Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-7 minutes.
- First rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and place them in a greased 9ร13-inch baking dish.
- Second rise: Cover the rolls with a kitchen towel and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes until puffed up.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC). Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
- Brush with butter: Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter for a shiny finish.
- Serve: Let the rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm or at room temperature!
