Description

A classic Midwestern comfort food, Tater Tot Hotdish is made with simple ingredients like ground beef, creamy soup, veggies, and crispy tater tots on top. Itโ€™s hearty, cozy, and super easy to makeโ€”perfect for weeknight dinners or potlucks.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup

  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of chicken soup (optional, for extra creaminess)

  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn, or green beans)

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (optional but recommended)

  • 1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Cooking spray or butter (for greasing the pan)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the meat is browned and the onion is soft. Season with salt and pepper. Drain excess grease.

  • Stir in the cream of mushroom soup (and cream of chicken soup, if using), and the frozen mixed vegetables. Mix until everything is well combined.

  • Spread the meat mixture evenly in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top (if using).

  • Arrange tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese or meat mixture.

  • Bake for 40โ€“45 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.

  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can swap the cream of mushroom soup for cream of celery if you prefer.

  • For a bit of a kick, add a dash of hot sauce or some crushed red pepper flakes to the meat mixture.

  • Leftovers store well in the fridge for up to 4 days.
