Description

A comforting twist on classic Sloppy Joesโ€”rich, savory ground beef mixture served open-faced on garlicky Texas toast, topped with melted cheese.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup bottled barbecue sauce
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 box (8 slices) frozen garlic Texas toast
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Brown and crumble the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat; drain excess grease.
  2. Return meat to skillet; stir in diced tomatoes, ketchup, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and sugar.
  3. Cover and cook on medium heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare the garlic Texas toast according to package directions.
  5. When toast is done, top each slice with sloppy Joe mixture.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar over each slice; let cheese melt (toast in oven briefly if needed).
  7. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Omit tomatoes if you prefer a smoother sauce.
  • Adjust sugar based on sweetness of your BBQ sauce.
  • For extra crispiness, broil the cheese-topped toast for a minute.
  • Leftover meat keeps 3โ€“4 days in the fridge and freezes well.
