  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 14 oz caramels, unwrapped
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk (for caramel)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Non-stick cooking spray or butter for greasing pan

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the chocolate cake mix with melted butter and 1/3 cup evaporated milk until a thick batter forms.
  3. Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 15 minutes.
  4. While the cake is baking, melt caramels with the remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

  6. Sprinkle chopped pecans and chocolate chips over the caramel layer.

  9. Cool completely before slicing and serving.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • You can use homemade caramel sauce if preferred.
