- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/3 cup evaporated milk
- 14 oz caramels, unwrapped
- 1/3 cup evaporated milk (for caramel)
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Non-stick cooking spray or butter for greasing pan
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix the chocolate cake mix with melted butter and 1/3 cup evaporated milk until a thick batter forms.
- Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 15 minutes.
- While the cake is baking, melt caramels with the remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Remove cake from oven and pour the caramel sauce evenly over the baked layer.
- Sprinkle chopped pecans and chocolate chips over the caramel layer.
- Drop spoonfuls of the remaining cake batter on top and gently spread to cover.
- Bake for an additional 20โ25 minutes, or until the top is set.
- Cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For an extra chocolatey touch, drizzle with chocolate ganache or fudge sauce.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- You can use homemade caramel sauce if preferred.
